Data Specifications Improvements
Published in December 2017
Based on feedback from participants regarding the Post-Op Complication file, we have decided to make some improvements to the 2017 Data Specifications document to provide more clarity on how to submit the data elements. This is why last week's Data Specifications webinar was postponed.
The December 13 webinar, "How to Submit AJRR's Current Data Specifications Part 2 - Post-Op Comp Layout" was postponed until early 2018 in order to have time for the planned enhancements. Since the first release of the new data spec format for all our Levels was in 2017, we predicted that revisions would be inevitable. Therefore, we are doing a full review of the data specs and will be releasing the latest version in Q2 2018.
From now on, we plan to only update the specs once a year, with the timing likely coordinating with the yearly updates of ICD-10 codes that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) releases each year. Only 77 participants have submitted the Procedural Layout, so we would like hospitals to keep concentrating on this file layout. AJRR will most likely have some changes to this file layout, but they will be minor tweaks compared to the work that will be done on the Post-Op Complication Layout.
The AJRR appreciates your continued participation and dedication to submitting data to the Registry. It is no longer mandatory to submit data with the current data specs in January 2018, but AJRR highly encourages it. If you have any questions about the Procedure Layout, you can access the slides and a recording of our webinar on the topic in the AJRR User Group Network (Unet) Forum. The AJRR 2017 Data Specifications and Data Dictionary can also be found in the Unet Forum.
