Dr. Daniel J. Berry attended Harvard Medical School, then performed his orthopedic surgery residency in the Harvard Combined Program.  He performed a six-month fellowship in surgery of the hip in Bern, Switzerland and Paris, France, and another fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.  In 1991, Dr. Berry joined the Mayo Clinic staff and served as Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Mayo Clinic from 2005-2014, where he is currently the L.Z. Gund Professor of Orthopedic Surgery.

He has published over 180 peer-reviewed papers, over 85 book chapters, and has edited seven books on hip and knee arthroplasty.

Dr. Berry has served as a director of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, as the Chairman of the Maurice E. Müller Foundation, President of the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Currently, he is President of The Hip Society and Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Joint Replacement Registry. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mayo Clinic and of The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.
